Maintaining Your Commercial Refrigeration System

Posted on

A commercial refrigeration system can be a critical appliance for allowing your enterprise to safely store perishable goods. Poorly maintained commercial refrigeration systems can be extremely problematic due to the risk of them failing and causing the items that they are storing to perish.

Dirty Condenser Coils

Failing to keep the condenser coils of the refrigeration system clean can impact the ability of the system to vent the heat that it has absorbed. This is due to the ability of the dust and dirt that collects on these coils to insulate. Cleaning the condenser coils can be an essential part of maintaining a commercial refrigeration system, but it can be very difficult to reach these components. As a result, individuals that have not hired professionals for this work could find that they miss much of the dirt and grime that gathered on the coils.

Jammed Mechanical Components

The refrigeration system will have an assortment of mechanical components that will have to work efficiently in order for the system to cool its interior. These mechanical components can become jammed or otherwise fail. This can occur to the pump that circulates the refrigerant through the system, the blower that helps to cool the condenser coils, and to the mechanism that distributes the cooled air through the interior space. Regular service maintenance can be essential for removing debris and lubricating these components so that they will continue to function at a high level. Servicing the mechanical components can be difficult due to the fact that the refrigeration system will need to be taken apart in order for these components to be reached.

Air Leaks Around The Door

Air leaks around the door of the refrigeration system can substantially increase the work that the system will have to do in order to cool the interior space. This could also lead to the interior becoming warmer as the cool air may escape faster than the unit can remove heat. Faulty gaskets can be one cause of this problem. However, it may also occur due to the door coming out of alignment as this could allow small gaps to form. During a maintenance visit, the technician will likely inspect the condition of the seal around the door's perimeter as well as its alignment. In cases where the seals are worn or damaged, replacing them can be a very affordable and quick repair. Alignment issues with the door may require the hinges to be adjusted, but this may not be a major repair if they have largely avoided major damage.
